Teaching

Teaching is where my passion for equipping others with knowledge and skills meets the practical need for impactful learning. Whether I’m guiding individuals through Bible studies, mentoring disaster relief teams, or leading students in higher education, I’m driven by the desire to see people grow, not just in knowledge but in their ability to apply what they’ve learned in real-life scenarios. I believe teaching is about inspiring others to reach their potential and helping them gain the confidence to tackle challenges head-on.

Bible Study Teaching with Purpose

Bible Teacher Chris Reighley

At Shoe Leather Gospel, I teach Bible studies designed to make Scripture both accessible and relevant to everyday life. My mission is simple: combat biblical illiteracy by providing clear, relatable teachings through podcasts like Journey Thru the Bible and Footsteps of the Messiah. I guide listeners through a chronological study of the Bible, offering practical insights that help them apply biblical truths in their day-to-day lives. These teachings are designed to do more than inform—they aim to transform lives by equipping believers with a deeper understanding of their faith.

Training at ADRN: Equipping for Crisis

Teaching at Austin Disaster Relief Network (ADRN) is where I combine knowledge with action. I’ve had the privilege of training volunteers and leaders in Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM), Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and the FEMA Incident Command System (ICS). These aren’t just technical courses—they’re designed to empower people to lead with confidence during high-pressure situations. I focus on equipping learners with the skills they need to serve others during some of the most challenging moments of their lives, ensuring they are mentally and spiritually prepared to respond to crises.

Academic Teaching: Practical Knowledge for Real-World Success

As an Adjunct Professor at Wilmington College and Southern State Community College, I’ve taught a diverse range of subjects, including:

  • Computer Science
  • Marketing
  • Business Administration
  • Fine Arts

I understand that adult learners need practical, applicable knowledge that translates to their careers. My teaching philosophy is grounded in interactive, real-world applications. I focus on hands-on learning, ensuring that students don’t just grasp theoretical concepts but can apply what they learn in their professional lives. Whether it’s leading a discussion on business ethics or teaching the technical aspects of computer science, my goal is to inspire students to think critically and apply their knowledge effectively.

Corporate Training and Mentoring Future Leaders

Teaching goes beyond the classroom or church setting for me. I’ve designed and delivered corporate training programs that focus on leadership, strategic planning, and team development. My corporate training approach is rooted in problem-solving, helping individuals not just acquire knowledge but also develop the skills to think critically and navigate real-world challenges. Additionally, through the Texas A&M Graduate Mentoring Academy, I am honing my mentoring skills to guide and develop future leaders. Mentoring, in my view, is about fostering a relationship where growth happens naturally through encouragement, challenge, and support.

Core Skills in Adult Education and Corporate Training

Here’s how I apply my key skills in Adult Education and Corporate Training:

  • Facilitation: I create dynamic, interactive learning environments where learners are encouraged to participate and engage fully.
  • Instructional Design: Every program I design is tailored to meet the specific goals of the learners, ensuring that learning outcomes are achievable and meaningful.
  • Communication: Clear and purposeful communication is central to my teaching. I provide ongoing feedback and ensure learners feel supported throughout the process.
  • Adaptability: I can pivot and adapt my teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners, whether in-person or virtual.
  • Technology Proficiency: From using Learning Management Systems (LMS) to delivering content virtually, I leverage technology to enhance the learning experience.
  • Continuous Improvement: My approach is to always seek feedback, evaluate success, and refine my teaching strategies to ensure future learners get the best experience.

Why Teaching Matters to Me

Teaching is more than a job—it’s a privilege. It’s about investing in people and watching them grow, not just in knowledge but in confidence and capability. Whether I’m guiding volunteers through crisis response training or leading college students through complex subjects, my goal is to empower others to succeed. I believe that the most effective teaching is about more than just transferring information—it’s about fostering personal growth, critical thinking, and meaningful application of knowledge.
